We’re kicking off our new Power Tools Warm-Up series.
Think of it as a routine for creative stretching, where we revisit the tools that make design faster, smoother, and more enjoyable.
We’re starting with one that’s been quietly saving designers for years: Smart Resize.
If you’ve ever built a campaign in multiple formats, you already know how much time it can save. And if you haven’t tried it yet, this is a good place to start.
Ready? Let’s get you started with the warm up.
First in the series, Smart Resize is the perfect pre-workout for your creative muscles.
It helps you turn a single design into a full banner set with up to 50+ sizes in just a few clicks.
Start with one layout or add new ones as you go inside the Banner Generator, and Smart Resize will handle the rest, keeping your layouts consistent and ready for launch.
Here’s how to get the best results as we’re deconstructing the entire process.
1. Adjust Your Bounding Boxes
Every element in your design (text, image, logo) sits inside a bounding box that defines its real size.
When you resize, Smart Resize uses those boxes to decide how each element scales and where it lands in the new layout.
- Keep each box within the banner borders
- If a text box is much wider than the text, trim it down to just slightly beyond the content
- Use Align in the top toolbar for a clean, centered layout
It’s a small setup step that keeps everything in the right place later.
2. Anchor Elements to Layout Edges
Anchoring keeps your design steady when the layout changes size.
- Use Align in the top toolbar for a clean, centered layout
- Anchored elements automatically stay in place and scale proportionally
It takes just a few seconds, but it saves you from fixing shifted elements later.
3. Simplify Your Layers
The simpler your design, the better it resizes.
- Combine multiple text styles into one text box instead of stacking several
- Remove any layers you don’t really need
A clean layout gives Smart Resize less to guess and helps it adapt everything faster and more accurately.
4. Group Related Elements
When certain elements belong together, group them before resizing.
- Select and group related items
- They’ll move and scale together, keeping spacing and alignment consistent
It’s a small step that helps your layouts stay neat and predictable across every size.
5. Maintain Element Order
When you resize, Smart Resize keeps your element order exactly as you set it.
- Items in the top left corner stay first
- Elements in the bottom right remain last
Your layout stays organized, no extra fixing needed.
6. Generate Multiple Sizes at Once
If you’re working on several banner formats, save time by generating them all at once.
- Click Resize in the lower-left corner
- Choose the sizes you need
- Quick shortcut: Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) to select multiple sizes
- Click Generate a Set
You’ll then see a setup page where you can tweak a few layouts before finalizing your banner set.
7. Add New Layouts Anytime
While working in the Banner Generator, you can add new layouts whenever you need.
Smart Resize instantly creates the new format and adapts your existing design to fit, keeping everything consistent.
8. Resize Animated Banners
Animations count too. Smart Resize keeps things moving just the way you planned.
- Preview your main layout to see how the motion looks
- Adjust element positions if something feels off
- Open the Timeline to fine-tune the details
Any changes you make carry over to matching layouts, so every size stays in sync without extra effort.
