“Our condolences to BMW, Mercedes and Lexus”

Says Hyundai. Now that’s a headline!

I wonder if the guys who made this ad ever heard about negative campaigning. They wouldn’t be the first, nor the last.

However, what puzzles me is the ad’s possible subtle meanings. You know, auto industry… recession… financial crisis… the Big Three? Oh, but what am I talking about? None of the cars mentioned in this ad is made by the Big Three… Knowing this automatically makes it acceptable, right?

Hyundai’s ads are totally absurd. They’re not supposed to say that to their competitors as if they were that great just by winning certain awards. BMW, Lexus and Mercedes are brands known for decades. Hyundai’s just starting their success.

Well, you know, attacking other brands can make your ads successful… but also can make you look ridiculous. I agree there’s no such great difference between the four brands for one of them to be so arrogant. It’s not like Hyundai is the Mac’s of the automobiles.
